POTTERY

Jasmine is a ceramic and mul,-media artist specializing in crea,ve works that promote meaningful connection. In pottery her work focuses on vessels for storing, steeping and drinking tea, an ac,vity oEen done in community but alone can be a medita,ve prac,ce to foster connec,on with oneself. In the context of permaculture design this work is through the design and crea,on of community-based gardens and gathering places including stained glass and ceramic mosaic and landscape design. Her work in permaculture is inspired to strengthen food sovereignty and working with youth towards ac,on-based reconcilia,on work locally in the Cowichan Valley.

Currently she seeks to expand her professional skills to gain mastery of tradi, onal reduc,on firing techniques used for millennia, including wood-firing, gas kilns, soda-firing and raku. Shop pottery here

MOSAIC & PERMACULTURE DESIGN
When the UN’s 2018 IPCC special climate report and Jasmine’s daughter was in kindergarten, she felt called to find ways to work creatively with youth having meaningful connection with the outdoors through beauty, creativity, learning about growing food and native plant restoration projects. This journey led her to train in permaculture and concurrently revive a childhood love clay. The community garden work is public and social while the work in the pottery studio is quieter and more introspective, but both support meaningful connection with ourselves, each other and the natural world.

She designed and led the creation of a large school garden with a community-created stained glass mosaic / outdoor classroom on Vancouver Island and is currently working on a multi-location community mosaic titled “River of Community” that was a runner up in the Permaculture of North America’s annual competition.
